Devane 2: An Unspoken Betrayal
Publisher: Liquid Silver Books
The riveting sequel to Out Of Hell...
Almost a year has passed since the murder of Robert Bradshaw, and Inspector Michael Devane has married Bradshaw's lovely widow, Bethany Anne. Life has become a thing to be enjoyed again, and the past is slowly being put to rest. But less than a day after they return to London from their honeymoon, Bethany's closest friend, Daphne Ashton, arrives with a problem that will require Devane's special brand of insight and investigation-as well as his return to the case that never quite rests, that of the elusive killer known as Jack The Ripper.
Once again on the streets of Whitechapel and Spitalfields, Devane's dreams are haunted by blood, violence, and a growing certainty that he is being drawn deeper into a mystery that is, perhaps, best left unsolved. Recently free of an opium addiction, the pressures mount, leaving Devane to wonder if he has known all along who the Whitechapel murderer is, and chose to seek refuge in drug-induced ignorance rather than accept a truth that could destroy much more than his new life if it became known...
Read an excerpt:
“Welcome back, Inspector,” Sergeant David Goodwin’s broad face split into a grin when he saw who it was coming into the busy office. “I trust you enjoyed your time in France, sir?”
“Very much, Sergeant,” Devane smiled warmly, genuinely pleased to see his friend and colleague again.
“I didn’t expect to see you here quite this soon, Inspector,” Goodwin observed. He took the opportunity to look closely at the younger man. Devane didn’t look different, yet there was something very changed in him. The dark hair was as untidy as it always was, the ebony depths of his eyes sharp and insightful, and his dress simple and elegant, tailored to fit his slender form to perfection. His skin, normally pale, sometimes almost ashen, was sun-kissed and glowing with health, and Goodwin nodded in satisfaction. “Marriage appears to be doing wonders for your well-being, Inspector,” he remarked.
Devane draped his suit jacket over the back of his chair and sat down, lighting a cigarette as he considered his sergeant. He smoked in silence for a few minutes then offered Goodwin a smile that was vividly colored with humor.
“I spent the first month of my marriage in a clinic, David,” he admitted softly. “Your days of dragging me out of opium dens in the East End are over, old friend.”
“I am very glad to hear it, Inspector,” Goodwin replied.
The big man spoke lightly, but the barely audible catch in his voice told Devane how sincerely relieved he was by the news. Before they could continue their conversation, a knock on the door made Devane look upward.
“Constable?”
“A woman here to see you, Inspector Devane,” he answered smartly. “Miss Ashton, she says.”
Devane’s eyebrows rose and he tossed Goodwin a wry smile.
“Show her in, Constable...?”
“Owen, sir.”
“Constable Owen. Thank you,” Devane nodded.
In less than a minute, Daphne Ashton strode into the small office and looked around, her distaste evident in every line of her body. As was her custom, she was dressed to perfection in the latest fashion, every tiny detail a testimony to taste, elegance, and wealth. The only variance Devane could see was her choice of colors; on the few occasions he’d seen her before, she was always in striking, flamboyant shades. Today, for her excursion to a police office, she had chosen a heavy shade of plum, and a hat that veiled her pretty features.
“Would you like to sit down, Miss Ashton?” Devane offered.
“This is hardly a social call, Inspector,” she snapped impatiently.
He smiled, just a little. “No,” he agreed, “but that doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable while we talk.”
“Comfortable,” she repeated, and the derisive note was in no way disguised. “I assure you, Inspector, I would not be comfortable here under any circumstances. Can we speak privately?”
At this point she hadn’t so much as glanced at Goodwin. Devane cast a questioning look at his sergeant, who had risen the instant she’d entered the office. He nodded his understanding and picked up several of the files that littered his desk.
“If you’ll excuse me, sir, I’ll see about filing some of this.”
Devane waited, and when the door closed behind his friend he stubbed his cigarette out and gestured again to the chair in front of his desk. This time, Daphne sat, barely. Hovering close to the edge of the seat, she looked like a bird poised for flight.
“What’s happened since last night?” he asked. “I’ve barely arrived here myself.”
“So Bethany told me,” she replied. “This arrived in the morning post,” she said and tossed a plain ivory envelope onto his desktop.
Devane picked it up and let the undercurrents of emotion filter from his touch to his sensitive mind... The images rushed at him like an oncoming train, their speed and impact blistering his psyche and battering his carefully cultivated control. The whirlwind of color and sounds churned like a tempest, and he instinctively reached inward and slowed the influx enough to distinguish what he was seeing: Daphne Ashton was clear and laughing happily for a moment, then she danced away from his sight, only to reappear in the next heartbeat, this time beautifully naked and smiling coquettishly as she posed gracefully on a chaise longue. The man behind the easel remained hidden, but the shift in Devane’s mental attention also changed the taint of the images, and bright joy was extinguished. In its place came the onslaught of anger and contempt, so potent that the very taste of it was bitter in his mouth. As the acrid flavor grew metallic and thick, Devane’s spirit cringed away, and as it had the night before in his nightmare world, his life exploded in pain and a wash of scarlet gore...
“Devane!”
He dropped the envelope and drew back, his hand shaking so violently that he knew she couldn’t possibly have not seen it. There was annoyance in her eyes as she stared at him, and no trace of any warmth or concern.
“Have you been to an opium den already?”
“What?” The query sounded stupid and sluggish, even to him.
“Does Bethany know about this?”
He smiled thinly, and the cloak of composure fell into place naturally.
“There is nothing for Bethany to know, Miss Ashton,” he stated quietly. “I no longer chase the dragon, but I still see many things. Your lover is not a lover at all, is he?”
She was on the defensive now, and it galled her to have to confirm what he obviously had gleaned from his brief contact with the missive she’d received.
“He wants five thousand pounds, immediately, or he will sell the paintings to a gallery in London. That’s the price I am to pay for my trust.”
“A small price for a woman of your means,” Devane noted coolly. “Yet you choose to bring this to me instead? Why is that?”
“If I request a sum of that amount, there will be questions, and I can hardly account for five thousand pounds and nothing to show for the expenditure.”
“You could always produce the paintings,” he suggested.
“I did not come here to listen to the insults of a... a...”
“Careful, Miss Ashton,” he advised. “My wife is not here to keep us from speaking our minds.”
“You appear to be doing so in spite of that,” she retorted.
He nodded, and even offered her a sincere apology for his rudeness. She was unimpressed.
“I’ve said I will look into this, Miss Ashton,” he reaffirmed. “I will. When does he want an answer to his demand for money?”
“Within two days,” she said, sighing heavily. “I can’t arrange it, Devane, and the scandal will destroy my family, as well as my own prospects.”
He refrained from comment about her lack of consideration for those thing prior to the relationship she’d entered into.
“Tell your family you will join us for dinner tonight,” he directed quietly. “If things go in our favor, I should have some idea of this man’s identity by that time.”
She nodded, but declined to offer him the gratitude his discretion deserved. She was gone only a few minutes when Goodwin returned.
“Where are we headed now, Inspector?”
Devane buttoned his jacket and grabbed his overcoat off the rack beside the office door.
“Whitechapel,” he replied succinctly. He didn’t need to look back to know Goodwin was frowning, but following him anyway…

4 Angels for SIMPLY THE BEST
SIMPLY THE BEST
Contemporary Action/Adventure romance
4 Angels: Simply The Best is an amazing book that I did not want to put down! Ms. Bridger has created exceptional characters that will touch the reader’s heart. Kaylee and Max are wonderful together as they struggle to make their relationship work. The passion between Max and Kaylee is countered beautifully by the emotional ties pulling them together again and again. I enjoyed that even though Max’s secret life frightened Kaylee, she was unwilling to use that as a reason to end their relationship.

Devane 1: OUT OF HELL Review
The Devane Files Book One: OUT OF HELL
Genre: Historical/Victorian Romance/Mystery
Rating: 5 Flags
Reviewed by Cathie for EURO-REVIEWS
Out Of Hell is an astonishing first book in the historical romance mystery series The Devane Files by Denyse Bridger. The book is so smooth, flowing and organized so that the reader can fall into the story in the first pages. The author, Denyse Bridger, gives the reader a hero with a pure tortured soul that will have the reader on an emotional roller coaster along with Devane. There's no way to avoid having empathy with the characters in this book. The uniqueness of this historical romance series is one that the author should be recognized for. Her creating a series that will make readers anticipate each book, and to wish this series is one that will continue on indefinitely telling more of Devane and Bethany's romance, and the mysteries uniquely developed in the books, as well as following their healing from their past and present as well as future. Devane and Bethany's romance within the story was so sensually romantic, with tenderness as well as intensity, that the love between them was beautiful to read. Hours and days after reading this book, readers will continue to have thoughts of Devane and Bethany with a sigh of contentment, joy and anticipation of more to come.

Busier than ever...
For those of you who aren’t part of the newsgroup, things are jumping there more and more and lots of new things will be popping up over the next month as we all get into the spirit of Christmas and giving. Feel free to join us at any time and offer your suggestions, as well as participate in the giveaways and contests that will be going on.
Book Two of The Devane Files (An Unspoken Betrayal) is due for release on December 11th, and despite my absolute devotion to this character it is at this time unlikely we’ll go further into the series. The sales are abysmal and I love the character too much to struggle further with the series. Victorian England is a period that is close to my heart, but I can’t keep writing what no one wants to read, so it’s on to other things.
The third installment of the American Motorcycle Company’s serial, Rebel Knight, is about ready to go, so if you’ve been following Nick’s story, watch for the announcement that the newest chapter is available after much delay. I’m already working on Chapter Four in hopes that another delay between the segments can be avoided. RK3 is called Spirit’s Edge and takes our hero into that dark place in his soul where he clings to the memory of his wife and tries not to let his spirit die with her. It was a tricky one to write.
Next year my first book with Samhain Publishing will be released. The title of this piece is Another Man’s Wife, and it’s an expanded reprint of my Amber Quill title A Safer Haven. Tentative date is for June, and I’ll keep you posted here and at MySpace, as well as the newsletter and group. I don’t have a date for the vampire thriller that will be released at Forbidden Publications, but it’s called A Whisper of Humanity. Another contemporary Action Thriller with a martial arts flavour is also due out in the coming year, it's a short story called Silent Death and will be published by New Concepts Publishing. My second Samhain submission is pending, but if accepted it's an erotic fantasy about other-world pirates called The Gates of Infinity, and is a novella-length tale of adventure.
Always a lot going on these days so stay tuned!!

Alexander’s story unfolds over the centuries and settles in during a time in his life when he was most wistful. It is the early 1700’s and Alexander and his “children” have come across an inn where they meet Amberlaine. Forlorn and despondent, Amberlaine wishes to end her existence as the wife of the ruthless and harsh inn owner, Thom. Her greatest desires are about to come true when three strangers appear along with the dark of the night. Her allure to them is unwavering and it is about to be reciprocated.
Alexander is quite the seducer! His powerful and commanding presence had me weak in the knees. But make no mistake, he is a vampire and is therefore characteristically evil. I absolutely loved this about him. He has so many layers. He has a dark side and a seductive side. I couldn’t help the fear growing in my heart as I devoured Amberlaine’s unfaltering devotion for him. Given her current, unforgiving circumstances, I found myself supporting her ultimate surrender to Alexander and it was highly fascinating to witness her personality transformation. Julian and Diana, Alexander’s children, are also riveting characters. They harbor conflicting emotions towards Alexander. They both love and fear their master, and are sometimes weary of his decisions. The plot of this dark and deadly tale had me quivering from head to toe, but unfortunately, the sex in this book left me still. It was seductive and plentiful, but didn’t live up to what I would have expected from characters of this caliber. The ending was a little frustrating with plenty of strings left tangled, leaving me to wonder if there will be a follow-up book. Nevertheless, the characters in this story were fascinating and I was hooked on the haunting, memorable evil that was portrayed. Descent Into Darkness is a twisted look into the dark side of vampires and was nicely executed.

THE DOMINO EFFECT
Genre: Contemporary Action/Suspense
ISBN: 1-59578-285-0

Cover by: April Martinez
Publisher: Liquid Silver Books
Ex-intelligence operative Martin Fowler is a man with a dangerous past, filled with casual liaisons and complex betrayals. In his old mentor’s daughter, Martin’s found happiness and trust for perhaps the first time in his life. But, that peace is about to be tested when an old enemy kidnaps Martin’s lover and a mutual friend, and to stay alive they must engage is a betrayal of their own…
Read an excerpt:
Christian Baines dropped into the chair that his host indicated and waited. The man walked around the large, mahogany desk that dominated the study and settled into the cushioned seat of the chair behind it.
“My name is Steven Ayers, Doctor Baines, and unless you cooperate with me, you will be responsible for the death of Daniella Renault.”
Christ! Baines thought, that was direct and to the point, wasn’t it? He regulated his expression, careful to keep the depth of his concern from his face. He leaned back and nodded, the gesture speaking for itself.
“You’re a very cautious man, Doctor,” Ayers smiled, no warmth at all in the shift of expression. “And a reasonable one, I hope.”
“Maybe you should just cut to the chase here, and tell me what the hell you want from me and Daniella.”
“From Daniella, nothing,” Steven said, anger settling into his green gaze. “She’s merely the tool I am using.”
“To what end, for Christ’s sake?” Baines demanded, suddenly furious in the face of this eerie calm. He rose only to be immediately pushed back into his chair. He glanced over his shoulder, saw the man who’d been with Ayers when they were picked up, and he made a conscious decision to be more careful. The last thing they needed was for him to get heroic and have them shot for the effort. “She’s just a scared young woman, Ayers. And one of the few truly decent ones I’ve ever met. If you want anything from me, you’d best leave her to hell alone!”
“I merely want you to do what I’m sure you’ve been wanting to do for some time now,” Ayers replied with no trace of Baines’ anger.
“You might want to explain that,” Chris pointed out. “It’s been a rough day, and I seem to be missing something.”
“I simply want you to sleep with Martin Fowler’s lover,” Steven said softly, watching the brown eyes for reaction.
Laughter was the probably last thing the man had anticipated, yet Baines did precisely that; Chris shook his head at the absurdity of the idea and laughed in Ayers face.
“You’re out of your mind if you think I have any intention of touching that girl for your pleasure,” Chris decreed. The disbelief was rapidly being replaced by anger, and he eased back into his seat and waited.
“Would you rather I let one of my men enjoy her company?” Ayers asked, a hint of irritation creeping into his tone.
It didn’t take Chris long to realize that the man was being perfectly serious and he felt a tremor of apprehension working up his spine at the recognition. He’d seen only two other men since their arrival at this house outside the city limits, and he was sure neither of them would hesitate to do whatever Ayers wanted.
“Why?” he asked, sincerely wanting an answer. “What the hell will destroying Daniella accomplish for you.”
“It’s not Daniella’s destruction I want, Baines,” Steven said in a low voice. “I owe her lover a debt of blood—your cooperation will determine whether Fowler pays that price, or if it will be this child you both love so much.”
Chris felt an invisible trap springing shut, and panic lit a flame of urgency within him. There had to be more to it than he was being told, having him make love to Daniella wouldn’t hurt Martin, unless... Jesus! he thought, they were going to take pictures, or something equally appealing. Still, he hadn’t figured any other options available, yet.
“If I agree to this, what the hell makes you think Daniella will? She loves Fowler; she sure as hell won’t betray that willingly.”
“Well,” Steven laughed, satisfaction coloring the sound. “At least we know the idea isn’t altogether unattractive to you. She’s a beautiful woman, though, isn’t she? It would be a pity to have to change that.”
“She won’t go along with this,” Chris repeated, trying to keep the hint of despair from his tone. He could feel the noose tightening and knew he was losing the battle to keep Daniella safe.
“Then you’ll have to persuade her, won’t you?” Ayers told him, ice in the words. “You’re a doctor, Baines, I assume you can administer something that will make her more than willing to share your bed for us.”
“You want me to drug her, then betray her.” Chris closed his eyes and felt the sting of tears amid his rage. If he did this, and there was little choice but to do it, he’d be betraying something very precious to him, Daniella’s trust. It would be a bitter loss.
“The alternative is to give her to Eddie,” Steven said, his nod indicating the man standing at the door. “He really is very anxious to have you decline.”
I’ll bet! Chris thought in a wave of loathing. “I haven’t got anything to give her,” he stalled, knowing it would be futile.
“Tell me what you’ll need, and I’ll see that you have it once we arrange things.”
Baines said nothing, and when he stood up this time, he was allowed to leave the study. A hand on his arm pointed him back toward the room he’d left Daniella in earlier. He walked ahead of Eddie and tried to think of some way to refuse Ayers, a way that wouldn’t get Daniella killed, or raped by the imposing bulk presently following Chris’ every movement. He was stopped at the door. Eddie unlocked it, then flung Baines into the room. The slam of the door registered in the same instant as Daniella’s absence, and Chris launched himself at the closed exit.
He barely suppressed the enraged shout that rose in his throat, but he stumbled back and flopped onto the bed, refusing to voice his panic for their amusement. He shuddered into a tremor of impotent fury as the truth of his predicament sank in for perhaps the first time. He was expected to seduce one of his closest friends, betray everything she held dear, and still hope that Daniella would understand if they both survived the mess.
Then there was Martin.
Chris collapsed on the bed and moaned softly in an agony that was pure emotional turmoil. It wouldn’t matter if he survived this; the reprieve would be brief because if he did what they wanted of him, Fowler was certain to kill him…

*** SPECIAL PROJECT ***
It’s fall! That can only mean that Christmas is right around the corner. I am once again doing a Holiday for the Troops project. Thank you so very much, Denyse, for giving me temporary residence here to chat up this very worthwhile cause.
How it works - you send either items to be sent to the troops or checks, money orders or gift cards to be used to shop for the troops, I then shop and put together shipments and send them out to servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This link - http://lorifoster.com/author/militarytribute.htm - will take you to the Military Tribute page on Lori Foster's website where you will find a complete list of suggested items in the event you would like to do your own shopping for the troops. In return for your donation, your name will be entered in a raffle for some wonderful prizes. Pretty amazing, huh? The drawing will be held on October 31st and I plan to mail the boxes during the second week of November to ensure delivery before the holidays. It is exciting every time we send shipments for the troops but the holiday boxes are especially fun to put together. If you are unable to send a donation of any kind, but would like to send cards, letters or drawings by your children for inclusion in the boxes, they would be greatly appreciated! I am hopeful that if you have a blog you might mention this project and provide my information. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING POLITICAL ABOUT THIS PROJECT. It is simply a show of support for the men and women who serve our country. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks bunches and big hugs to you, Denyse.

ISBN: 1-59578-268-0
Genre: Victorian Mystery Erotica Novel

In 1892, London is only now beginning to forget the horrors of the "Ripper" murders. Inspector Michael Devane, who worked on that notorious case, has been assigned to the murky Whitechapel district now that Chief Inspector Fred Abberline is retired. Devane is a haunted man, his mind frequently lost to the fog of an opium addiction. But Devane is also a man of brilliant vision and intuition, something Abberline recognized years earlier.
When theatre producer Robert Bradshaw is violently murdered in his townhouse bedroom, Devane is drawn into a shadowy world of obsession, abuse, and hatred, all barely hidden beneath the thin veneer of proper society. In Bethany Anne Bradshaw, the lovely widow, Michael also discovers that he is not so immune to passion as he once believed, and his judgment may be faulty for less-than-honorable reasons when he begins an affair with her, ignoring the fact that she has strong motives for killing Bradshaw...
The complete first chapter is available in the FILES section of my newsgroup, as well as an excerpt for The Devane Files Book Two: AN UNSPOKEN BETRAYAL, which is coming soon…

Anyone want to write a story for this??
It's simple: Pick a really hot, sexy hero, and write a short story about him. I'm thinking the sub-theme here could be tradesmen, (i.e. carpenters, plumbers, landscapers, etc.), and let's see how steamy your story can be.
If this works out, and 6-10 fun stories can be pulled together for the collection, I can then offer it via my website as one ofthe "freebies" for everyone to enjoy. Sound like something you might want to write a "quickie" for??? Let me know, okay?
Word count in the 5000 word range, and a deadline ofNovember 18th, and we'll see if things can be ready for Christmas! That gives you a shot at Holiday themes, too!! Have fun and email me if you want to participate, okay?

Vampire erotic romance novel...
DESCENT INTO DARKNESS
Genre: Historical/Vampire
ISBN: 1-59578-284-2
Date: October 16th, 2006
Cover by: April Martinez
Publisher: Liquid Silver Books (http://lsbooks.com/)
Spanning almost two centuries Descent Into Darkness is the erotic love story of an ancient vampire and the mortal woman who is his obsession.
Alexander DeLenoir is an ancient creature of the night, born in a betrayal that has left him without conscience or morality. He’s witnessed history that is now myth. Throughout his long life, Alexander has seldom sought companionship, and never has he looked for love. He has kept two of his immortal children with him, through whatever means necessary, and is not intending to expand his family.
Arriving at a small Massachusetts town after killing the sailors on their ship, the vampire trio meets the mysterious and lonely wife of the innkeeper, and Alexander is entranced by her beauty and her indomitable spirit. In Amberlaine Calvert, he senses a nature as dark and depraved as his own seeking freedom. Despite the protests of his companions, Alexander takes her and in adoration of him finds an obsessive kind of happiness.
When the town slowly awakens to the evil among them, a bloody slaughter ensues, and Amberlaine is forced to see the madness that will define her life with Alexander. Yet, in spite of her fear, she is obsessively devoted to the powerful vampire, and the darker things she feels lurking within her are about to be unleashed by a hunger even greater than her passion—the thirst for revenge against those who dare to threaten their existence…

Hi - Janice here from EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing...
I just want to give you a "heads up" on the BookShorts MOVING STORIES premiere.
It will include a short animated film based on our latest book, "i-ROBOT Poetry by Jason Christie". The show will be broadcast on BookTelevision TONIGHT, Thursday, September 28 at 8pm EST and on The Canadian Learning Channel, Sunday, October 8th at 8:30am EST. Tune in ....
You will never look at your toaster or hair dryer the same way again.
In Jason Christie's collection of ROBOT poems, robots and other "sentient" animated appliances and are openly lamenting their positions as slaves to human desires -- and dreaming of finding their own identities and destinies!
The BookShort animation is based on Christie's "i-ROBOT Poetry by Jason Christie" - a collection of highly intelligent "ROBOTICA" poems - and is a stunning analysis of the world of robots, their inner emotions and what they perceive of the men and machines around them.
Some of the robotic devices featured in the poems are garborators, refrigerators, and washing machines. They even get the blues: "Why do I have to be one of millions? Why can't I just be a lonely little one in search of a zero to call my own?..."

Chit-chat, and another New Release
The new release is all set for Monday, so if anyone’s been waiting for the Victorian mystery/romance with the ties to Jack The Ripper, the wait is over. Personally, I think this is a much better book than the last one, mostly because it’s more of a truthful display of my writing style. I don’t, as a rule, think that explicit sex scenes enhance a story in any real way. If the book is good, then it’s real strength has to lie in the plot, the characterizations, and the way you execute the tale you want to tell. Romance is a side-effect of any story that involves people in emotional circumstances, so even in my fantasy tales, it’s there, however secondary. But, romance doesn’t always equate with sexual activity that is described in intimate detail, so… For me, I don’t ever write with graphic detail in a setting where it just doesn’t “feel” like the correct way to approach it. It’s going to be different for everyone, of course. In the first of the Devane Files books, there is romance and sexuality, but if you’re looking for another story like the one that was depicted in “Simply The Best”, you’ll be disappointed, I’m afraid. If you want a story that is crafted around two injured hearts learning to love again, then this one is very likely to appeal to you on many levels. There’s an excerpt on my website, and there’s going to be a different one posted to the LSB Blog on Tuesday morning. The URL for that one is: http://www.liquidsilverbooks.com/blog

The Devane Files Book One: OUT OF HELL
ISBN: 1-59578-268-0
Genre: Victorian era Romance/Mystery
*URL: http://www.liquidsilverbooks.com/books/outofhell.htm
In 1892 Whitechapel, only a few years after the infamous Ripper murders, Inspector Michael Devane is given the job of investigating the murder of a theatre producer. Devane is a haunted man, driven by the dark demons of his past, the elusive Ripper, and a growing addiction to opium. His brilliance is unquestionable, but his methods are highly unorthodox. When Devane comes into the home of the victim, an unpleasant man named Robert Bradshaw, he meets Bethany Davenshire-Bradshaw. In Bradshaw’s widow, Michael finds a kindred spirit who defies both the conventions of society, and the trappings of false mourning. As they grow closer, Devane discovers that Beth is a woman of many secrets, but could one of them really be that she is the murderer he’s looking for?
*NOTE: The URL won’t take you to the book until 6-7 PM ET on Monday evening. In the meantime if you want to have a look, you can go to the main page of the Liquid Silver site, (http://LSBooks.com) and click the “Coming Soon” link in the left sidebar menu.
The next book won’t be turning up until October, probably mid-month. That one is another Historical for the most part. It’s contemporary in sections, but the bulk of the story is set in the 1700s. It’s also a return to the vampire romance, and is at times quite erotic in nature. The cover will be done shortly, and once it’s ready, I’ll post it here, and of course, it will appear on the “Coming Soon” page of my website.
Other projects are my LXG: Dorian Gray romance, which I’m hoping to have finished in another month or so. Also, the next chapter of REBEL KNIGHT.
Before Christmas I’m also hoping to get well into my new pirate romance, so there’s lots of stuff on the go, I just need the time to get to everything. I guess that leads back to my earlier moan about too many ideas, doesn’t it?

Countdown to *NEW* releases and a couple of new "must reads" to suugest to you
For me, the next one is really the one that’s closer to my heart. Set in Victorian London, OUT OF HELL is the first of what I hope will be many books featuring Inspector Michael Devane. The first novella of the series is due early in September, and I hope you’ll take the time to meet the good Inspector, I think you’ll like him if you enjoy Historical romance fiction with a touch of mystery and eroticism.
The “must reads” now — If you like the 1800s England era, and vampires, or both, you really should read After Midnight from Teresa Medeiros. I’ve just finished it, and I loved it! I don’t even like vampires much, but that aspect was the framework for an engaging, passionate love story, not the focus of it, and Ms. Medeiros did a fabulous job with the story. It was rich in detail and read like poetry. I highly recommend it.
And, of course, I also recommend ANY book by my wonderful friend Lucy Monroe. As I’ve said to Lucy, the one thing that makes all her books so special is the way they make you feel when you put them down — happy inside, and that warm fuzzy stays with you long after the book is finished, so they’re all a joy to read. If you haven’t had the good fortune to read Lucy’s romances, it would really be worth your time to locate them and indulge in her brand of magic and romance. It will make you feel great inside, believe me!!!
Quick question for the LXG fans out there
Question is thus: I’m bringing Dorian Gray back to the land of the living in this novella, and given his history, and the way the League was presented, do you think he’d be a better man this time around, or totally without conscience? I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this character, as he was played by Stuart Townsend in the movie, so… Comments, suggestions, or observations anyone???
Thanks!

A new Media-based novella
Genre: Media-based Historical/Victorian erotic romance
Publisher: Alchemy Ink (www.cyphrevoudou.com)
Cover by: Barbara Fister-Liltz
Tentative release date: Autumn 2006
For fans of the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This is a short novel based on the character of Dorian Gray, as he was portrayed by Stuart Townsend.
Dorian Gray is immortal, powerful, bored, and lonely. When he receives an invitation to yet another of London’s fashionable balls, the last thing he expects to find is a woman who will change his existence and fill his endless days with passion and happiness. In young Venetia Tremaine, the ageless Gray finds a spirit as bright and uncompromising as time itself. She adores him, and is unafraid of the scandal that is stirred when he asks her to become his mistress. A role she revels in as wantonly as she does his sexuality.
But, as life often unfolds, happiness is a fleeting thing, and Dorian’s long past is a hard thing to outrun. It is only after his death that Dorian will come to know just how deeply loved and cherished his cynical soul truly is, when Venetia implores a practitioner of the Dark Arts to return her immortal lover to her….
Read an excerpt:
“Your parents don’t seem at all pleased, Miss Tremaine.”
Venetia felt the caress of his voice so acutely he might have actually touched her skin with his words.
“My parents are seldom pleased with much that I do, Mr. Gray,” she answered when he stopped at her side and looked out over the vast gardens of the estate house. Lamps had been lit and placed all over the property; from their vantage point on the second level balcony, it looked as though a hundred stars were hovering just above the ground. “I’m afraid that’s why I was shipped off to Paris for several years. They hoped the Holy Sisters could instill a greater sense of propriety into my wicked heart.”
Dorian’s smile was brighter than the sun, and warmed her in a much more intimate way, she was forced to admit.
“And were they successful, Miss Tremaine?”
“Venetia, please,” she requested as she turned to face him fully. She was captivated anew the instant their eyes met, and every part of her instinctively attuned itself to his presence. She had met Dorian Gray on several occasions when she was little more than a girl. He had never struck her as being anything more than a handsome rogue who was far too certain of his appeal. As a woman, she was growing more certain his arrogance was not misplaced in the slightest. Every unmarried woman in attendance tonight had sought his company at one time or another. Even some of the married ladies had been unable to resist his charm, despite the ire of their husbands.
“What are you thinking about, Miss… Venetia?” Dorian asked, his voice pitched to a smooth, sensual cadence.
“Honestly, or a polite answer, Mr… Dorian?” she amended softly when he smiled.
“Honestly, please,” he remarked, tone casual and inquisitive. “Polite society makes me feel rather ill after a time.”
Venetia laughed, her pleasure genuine. He straightened and their eyes were mere inches apart when she spoke again, her words a whisper of air between them. “I was simply wondering if there was a woman here who does not wish to be your lover tonight, Dorian Gray.”
“Bold words, indeed, darling,” he whispered.
“Are you surprised?”
“Delighted,” he corrected. “And what of you, my beautiful Venetia. Do you wish to join me in my bed tonight?”
She felt faint, and the restrictions of her corsets were suddenly stealing both reason and breath from her body. Deep within her, she felt a longing so profound it was almost pain. Dorian’s smiling mouth filled her vision, and she knew he was aware of the effect of his presence and his words. It didn’t matter, the outrage she’d have felt had he been any other man could not rise past the truth they both recognized. The curve of his lips fascinated her. The soft, fine dark hair of his goatee and moustache dared her to touch him as she wanted to. And the perfect fine angles of his face led her inexorably upward until she was trapped in the chasm of his eyes.
“Tell me what you’re thinking?”
There was a hint of wine and smoke in the flutter of air that touched her with his query.
“Why?”
“You fascinate me.”
“Why?”
“Innocence is seldom found coupled with utter honesty.”
“My tongue wants to taste your lips, Dorian Gray,” she confessed in a voice that was barely audible, wouldn’t have been had he been further away from her. “And my fingertips are tingling with the desire to know if beneath your fine suit and silk waistcoat is skin that is even finer to the touch.”
He took a step closer, so they were almost embracing.
“Tell me more.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“I am baring my soul to a man who is laughing at me,” she stated. “I’ve never before said things like this. Yet even mocking me as you are so obviously doing, Mr. Gray, I find myself compelled to indulge these wanton thoughts of you.”
“I am not mocking you, darling,” Dorian assured her. His fingers came to rest on the side of her face, learning the curve of her cheekbone with a feather-like caress before moving to the back of her neck to draw her forward. “Quite the contrary.” His words dissolved into a soft murmur of pleasure as he bent his head toward her.
As she lost contact with his mesmerizing eyes, Venetia gasped and the sound was captured by his mouth as it covered hers in a kiss so tantalizingly slow and lingering she was certain they were now the only two people in existence. She tasted the wine he’d been sipping earlier, and the hint of cigar smoke, but more subtle and intoxicating was the man himself. His tongue slipped between her parted lips and coaxed her to imitate the erotic dance of exploration in which he was engaged. She sucked his tongue deeper into her mouth and moaned softly when his arms pulled her into full contact with his body as the pressure of his kiss intensified.
Sensation exploded through her like a wildfire, and the swirl of heat and excitement threatened to consume her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned closer, pressing her hips into his, allowing her body to obey the desire to be as close to him as possible.
“And what do you want, Mr. Dorian Gray?” She posed the query as he finally left her lips and continued a wet, open-mouthed trek down the side of her neck. As his tongue stroked the frantic pulse there, his hands rested at her waist, brushing the smooth satin of her gown.
“I want you naked in my arms, Venetia Tremaine,” he breathed as he kissed her forehead. “I want to do things to you that have you crying my name like a prayer. Things that no other man will ever do to you, darling.” He smiled down at her, and she laughed quietly.
“You’re very certain of your prowess, Mr. Gray.”
Dorian’s laughter was genuine for the first time in a very long time.
“Venetia!”
The spell of seduction shattered with the strident outcry of Lady Tremaine as she arrived on the terrace and found them.
“I do apologize for my daughter’s shameless behaviour, Mr. Gray. Do forgive her lack of manners, please.”
Dorian’s eyes glittered with amusement when he let his gaze linger a moment longer on Venetia. “I would forgive your daughter any breach of manners, Lady,” he assured the distraught mother. “Her charm far surpasses any minor lapse in propriety. And,” he turned the full force of his disarming smile on the older woman, “any indiscretion was entirely my fault.”
“If you’ll excuse me, Mr. Gray,” Venetia interjected. “Mother, I’m not feeling at all well. I think I’ll retire for the night.”
“In the middle of a ball given in your honour!” The piercing quality had returned to her voice and Venetia frowned at the censure. “Have you no sense of proper behaviour, my dear?”
“I am hardly likely to charm a potential husband if I can hardly stand up due to fatigue, Mother.”
Dorian hid a smile behind his hand, and turned to look out over the gardens.
“Perhaps a walk in the garden would revive your spirits, Miss Tremaine?” He made the suggestion in a tone meant to appeal to her mother, who watched them with overt suspicion. “Lady Tremaine, with your permission…”
The challenge was there between them, though only Dorian and Venetia knew it was in fact a challenge to the woman’s position and authority. Genevieve Tremaine was not only outwitted, she was severely disadvantaged by Dorian’s outwardly innocuous appearance of decorum.
“Of course,” Genevieve nodded, still visibly unsure of the proposition. “I’ll expect to see you inside very shortly, Venetia.”
“Of course,” Venetia nodded, her entire mien demure and compliant.
Lady Tremaine hovered for a moment longer, then turned and went back inside to her guests.
“You are a very wicked man, Dorian Gray,” she noted with a small laugh.
“Thoroughly irredeemable, I’m afraid,” he agreed. “Now, would you really rejoin this rather tedious ball when I’m offering you an escape?”
“An escape,” Venetia repeated, tone thoughtful. “An interesting proposition.”
“I have a much more interesting proposition in mind,” he told her, walking half a step behind her so that he had to lean close to speak the words next to her ear…

Professional vs. hobby writing
Early on, talking to my editors, I discovered there’s a real disparity in how even pro writers approach their work. Some are still more hobby writers than driven professionals who value the opportunities that precious, and often elusive, book contract offers them. Instead of working with the editor, (who is the one person who doesn’t lie to you for the sake of your ego, I assure you), some authors take offense to the suggestion that their words are not in perfect order. BIG mistake that one. No one writes a perfect story, and if you think you do, you’re not likely to last long in the “pro” world. I was very lucky with my first editor, she took the time to point out my consistent mistakes, and helped me to a very large degree be aware enough that I’ve made those errors less and less often. I’ll always be grateful for her patience and guidance.
One of the other things that I’ve noticed is greatly appreciated by publishers is that you take this job seriously. They’re not there to wait on your “moods”. If you’re in the middle of edits or galley proofs, then do the work you’ve committed yourself to for the publisher. Don’t make them wait until your cosmic aura is in tune with the world and you feel up to working. Writers work on weekends and holidays, it’s the nature of the business. Honour the agreement you make to work on a timely basis with the folks who are willing to invest their business time and money into your dream of reaching an audience. Professional authors write, they don’t really have the luxury of waiting for the “mood” to strike. If you do, then you’re obviously not looking at this as a job, but an enjoyable and amusing hobby.
And, of course, there’s the audience who is reading your work. Don’t EVER take them for granted! When a writer starts to establish a readership base, every book is about luring in the reader who will really enjoy sharing your vision. You’re winning them over and tempting them back with each and every book. If you’re lucky, they’ll return to your websites, publishers, and blogs on a regular basis and support your career. That’s when the stories have to expand a little further, and as a writer, you then accept the responsibility for entertaining your readers and honouring their trust and faith that you’ll give them the story they want and expect. Contrary to what a few of my friends have said, that really doesn’t mean writing the same story over and over. It means growing, letting your creativity explore the endless realm of possibility, and respecting your readers.
Inspiration comes in many, many forms. For me, it’s always been random chance. When I wrote fan fiction, it was an actor or a character he/she portrayed. When I write original fiction, which is what 95% of it has become in the past few years, then inspiration hits anywhere. My Greek fantasy novel (80,000+ words) was born when I read a piece of ancient poetry. An image will spark an entire story some days. Or the way a certain actor looks in a specific role will inspire an entirely different kind of story. Don’t ever discount the power of a glimpse of something beautiful, or even something profoundly disturbing, because that’s often where your greatest stories can be found.
Ultimately, this is the most wonderful job in the world. You get to express your inner dreams, live your fantasies, and be everything you know in your honest heart that you will never be! Writing is not only cathartic, it’s a gift the Almighty gives us so that we can reach beyond ourselves and touch the hearts of others. Personally, I think that’s a privilege and I hope I can always entertain my readers, and leave them feeling a little bit “up” at the end of the tale. If that happens, then I’ve done my job right.
Muse of the moment
Okay, just for fun recently I’ve decided to take a brief break from professional commitments to have some fun. Writing is a joy to those who do it, but it’s also a job, so once in awhile you need a vacation. For me, writing in someone else’s world is often the creative “recharge” that my batteries need. This time is no different.
Anyone whose known me for awhile knows I started writing in fandom, and that’s usually where I head when I want to do something that is purely for fun. One of my favourite movies was watched again recently, and a story that nagged at me a couple of years back when I first watched it came back with a vengeance. So… For those of you who enjoyed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, this novella might appeal to you! We all develop crushes on performers that we love, so it was no surprise to me when Stuart Townsend’s portrayal of Dorian Gray lingered on long after the movie ended. But, for me, characters sometimes talk long after the movie’s over, as well, and that’s usually when I need to write the stories they whisper to my mind. “Dorian” wanted to be resurrected, and maybe even redeemed a little bit, so… That’s what I’m doing.
The new novella is called My Immortal Beloved, and it will be published by a very dear friend of mine later this year, or possibly early next year. I’ll post details as we get closer to making this an actual book. If you enjoy Victorian England at all, there’s that appeal. If you adore Stuart Townsend, (and let’s face it, what’s not to love, right?), then you may want to check this out for that reason. For most readers, the appeal may simply be that this is a beautiful, erotic romance story that just happens to be based on a movie. Stay tuned for details, okay?
