Spend All Hallows with author David Alan Dickens!

Today, please welcome author David Alan Dickens. He's agreed to spend Halloween with us, and to tell you about his book, and a little about the author himself.... Dragon Blood has a striking cover, and I'm reading it now and can tell you it's wonderful. Visit David's fabulous website, and get to know more about ALL his titles!! Now, welcome David....

  1. How long have you been writing?

Thank you, Denyse! I have been actively ‘writing’ for about ten-years, but have studied prose closer to twenty. I’d experimented with short-stories and poems in those earlier days, but wasn’t ready to scribe a competent novel until later, after my literary feet were completely wet.

  1. How long have you been a published author?

I am actually a self-published author, and began publishing my own line of fiction in 2008, when I began learning of POD publishing and several other Promethean opportunities for 21st Century writers. The publishing industry is rapidly changing and leverage belongs to anyone who is able to wield it.

  1. What titles do you have available?

I currently have five paranormal-thrillers available on Amazon: KING OF THE DEAD, ALIEN SIEGE, HITLER’S WOLVES, DRAGON BLOOD and THE PLAGUE. I am also a recovering alcoholic and published a nonfiction title detailing my battle with substance-abuse, and my ultimate recovery. Drug and alcohol addiction is an entirely different horror, in and of itself. Please see my website for complete details surrounding Defeating Addiction / Keys To Conquering Substance-Abuse, as well as book-descriptions and sample-chapters for each novel listed.

  1. What made you choose paranormal as your writing genre?

I have always loved horror, especially the gentler, kinder variety of my childhood. I never missed an episode of Ghost Host Theater, a local program whose narrator was an evil scientist. Amidst bubbling beakers and smoldering test-tubes, he was always conjuring up something or another in his laboratory. The movie which followed was usually a Grade-B relic, yet each brought a comfortable, campy feel. I aspire to instill that with my books. That’s what I mean by bringing back the classic horror novel. Readers want fright, but they also want some fun.

  1. Do you have any new titles coming soon?

Yes, I have a book about an old Queen Ann house during, and briefly following, the Civil War. The house was purchased by a pair of sisters from Europe, and they immediately opened a convalescing home for the many war-wounded. But their altruistic behaviour merely cloaks the blackest of motives.

  1. What is your favourite genre and why?

Horror /Paranormal will always enthral me. But I also have a penchant for a great techno-thriller or even a Love Story (slightly different than Romance). I am even considering authoring a Romance. I think I have a great outline coming together, and some sparks of passion!

  1. What, to you, is the most exciting part of the writing process?

Gosh, there are so MANY exciting parts to the writing process: From the moment a great theme / idea pops into my head, to appraising that first paragraph, to finally seeing my book in print. I think the utmost excitement comes later, however, when a great review comes hopping along!

  1. If you could co-author a book with anyone, who would you choose and why?

If I could choose a living or dead person, I would choose Edger Allan Poe or Sylvia Plath. I think both were very dark and very deep, and each was absolutely brilliant. I think the best mushrooms grow in the darkest caves. If I were to choose a living author to write with, Stephen King or Ken Follett would be near the top of the list.

  1. Where can readers find you on the web?

Each of my six titles are listed on, as well as my personal website,

Thanks so much for being my guest.

Mr. Dickens is a 47-year-old novelist from Baltimore, Maryland. He is also a recovering alcoholic. “I think writing may have helped save my life,” David proclaims. “By writing, ideating, I was able to distract myself and my addictive persona long enough to string together some sobriety, which turned into recovery.”

David loves to terrify his reader-audience, and will diligently search out the darkest caves of the paranormal world.

Then he will bring it into your home!

Have a look at the book now:

The storm was a witness to her hunger.

Groans of thunder rolled through the clouds, muffled warnings, a call to feed. Chills and cramping began seizing her body, symptoms she knew but could not fathom.

It's too soon, thought Samarah, feeling ice in her bones. Her blood was crying as a sense of panic, raw mania, sprinted toward her. Her heart was racing and she suddenly wanted to scream and cry at the same time, to burst with tears of anguish and unquenchable thirst. She began shivering.

The cravings came like a diabetic in need of insulin, the starving in need of nutriment, the drowning in need of rescue. There would be no sleep. There would be no rest. There would be no peace or sanity. All would be lost if she did not hunt.

As the sky darkened, lightning appeared in scattered flickers, muzzled flashes,

"scattered like raindrops" my thoughts"

A thick journal lay atop a small writing table. But her last sentence was unfinished. A silver pen glimmered near the manuscript, beckoning her to continue.

But Samarah could no longer write. She could no longer think. As a steady rain drummed the rooftop, she went to her bedroom window. Sheets of rain shifted and swirled, and waves lopped from the roofline gables, slapping the ground and washing throughout the pit of her stomach. A torrent of water sprinted down the gutter and the street was spattered frantically.
