GUEST: Tina Donahue

What Makes a Guy Sexy?

As a writer and a reader of erotic romance, I’m always looking for a hero that curls my toes and makes me smile until my cheeks hurt.

When I began writing in this genre, I considered the physical aspects pretty important. The guy had to be tall – at least six three – well endowed (of course) – and preferably dark and dangerous.

As I soon learned, physical aspects were just the proverbial cherry on top of the sundae. What was most important was his inner soul and heart. I discovered a man was at his sexiest when he was loyal to the woman he loved and was willing to risk all, even his life, to make certain she was safe.

Now, there’s a hero. The kind of guy who’ll stand next to you against everyone, or in the case of a paranormal romance, everything. A man who’s comfortable in his own skin and has a core of honor that can’t be compromised.

Stop me, I’m getting hot already. J

For my newest releases SiNN (contemporary ménage) and Unending Desire (erotic paranormal), I made certain that nothing was more important to my heroes than the woman they loved. They go through hell with her and for her in two lusty journeys.

Here’s the cover art, blurb and a link to an excerpt for each to give you a hint of what I mean. Enjoy!

Oh, and one more thing – I’m hosting a contest today…more on that later.

SiNN – contemporary erotic romance (ménage) from Ellora’s Cave

She’s every man’s carnal fantasy…and the target of one’s revenge

At a Phoenix gentleman’s club, Lea dances as SiNN, her body bared and vulnerable to her male partner, her features hidden behind a feathered mask. To the men watching, she’s a sensual enigma, submissive and seductive with no face, name or history. Not even Lea knows her real origins.

A man from the past does and wants her dead.

Not on the watch of U.S. Marshals Jake Gabriel and Toby Quinn. Commanding and decisive, Jake not only wants Lea’s safety but to have her naked and yielding beneath him. To Toby, she’s all he should resist but cannot.

Protected by them at a secluded estate, Lea’s drawn to their potent masculinity and the raw male lust in their eyes. Inviting desire and an emotional connection, she submits to both at once, surrendering to their most shameless hunger along with her own wanton needs.

All while a killer edges closer…

Psychologist Regina Page is trying to keep her mind on her client, and off the mysterious, unbearable sexual cravings that consume her when she’s alone in her bedroom. The next moment she’s attacked by vampires, then swept into another realm by a stranger whose touch awakens that same raw desire. Whose eyes are already filled with farewell.

Yet beneath their undeniable carnal lust, something else stirs. The beginnings of illicit love. The unexpected need to protect him. Even if it means risking body, blood and soul to defeat the merciless horde…for a future that was never meant to be.

Read an excerpt below:

Ultimately, it was about love. It was about loving someone enough to let them go. Only that sounded so cheesy, she’d never speak the words aloud. And it was about knowing she deserved to be loved, fully and completely, by the man she would spend the rest of her life with.

He did not look like he believed her claim and she could practically see the thoughts zinging around in his facile brain. He was trying to figure out the right words to reassure, when in fact none existed.

None that he could say anyway.

Again it was time for truth. “Your brothers have both found wonderful happiness while you have been stuck in a promise made on your behalf by two men with too much power and too little comprehension of the cost of their dynastic plans.”

“I do not consider myself stuck. I was an adult when that agreement was made.” Yes, he’d been all of twenty-four and as bound by duty as any young adult male could be. “I chose my future.”

An alpha male like Zahir would have to convince himself of that, or he could not accept the limitations imposed on him by others. It simply was not in his nature. He had the heart of a Bedouin, if the responsibilities of a landed royal.

“You do not wish to marry me,” she repeated, refusing to be sidetracked. “And I won’t let you be forced into doing so by duty.”

Nor would she allow herself to be railroaded into a marriage with the potential to be every bit as miserable as her parents was for so many years.

His eyes narrowed, his expression turning even more grim than usual. “You are not making any sense.”

“We’ve been promised for ten years, Zahir. If you had wanted to marry me, we would already be living in wedded harmony here in your family’s palace.” They would definitely at least be formally engaged.

Another winner from the delightful Cindy Jacks!

Last night, I spent a few hours lost in the latest fantasy woven by author Cindy Jacks. She’s chosen one of my all time favourite books as the basis of her new romantic escape, The Phantom of the Opera–written for a new age, and guaranteed to expand her reading audience considerably I’d guess. In PHANTOM TOUCH, we encounter a familiar yet new setup when we meet the lovely Erika, stuck in a mundane job, unsure of her beauty and value.

As Cindy takes the old story and makes it new, the Phantom in this tale uses internet magic to woo his “Christine” via Instant Messenger and social networking. As she falls under his spell, Erika unleashes a side of herself that even she is surprised and delighted by. They make music together, and step by step Erika opens up and discovers a sexuality that leaves her breathless.

She meets her Phantom and they become passionate lovers, creating a world where all that exists is their addiction to each other, their games, and their dreams. It’s a sensual, charged world that makes their reality bearable. But, the secret of his identity is a wall that needs to be cleared before they can fully love with freedom and real hope for a shared future… Will the Phantom take a chance and trust again? You’ll have to check out the book and learn his tragic secret and how Erika responds to it.

As she does in all her books, Cindy Jacks writes with passion and honesty as she explores the lengths to which love and hope can take us. Erika’s journey is built on trust, and even her fears, as she learns to see herself through the eyes of a man who loves and adores her. The sensuality of the love scenes is scorching, and the tenderness that exists between these two is heart-touching. Another winner from a lady who is quickly becoming a fan favourite and an artist who paints love and passion in her own shades of beauty. Thank you for a magical and wonderful new read, Cindy Jacks!

Gracen Miller: Fairies Are Hot, Too!

How much do you know about fairies? When you hear the word, do you think of small, ethereal creatures—Tinkerbell?—that fly about like a hummingbird? Do you imagine them so small they recline on tulips or other flowers? Are they mischief makers, helpers or a mixture of the two? And they almost always have wings, right?

Well, Wikipedia states that while current society illustrates them as winged, radiant creatures, they were originally portrayed much differently. One concept, they are tall, angelic creatures with a radiant disposition. A second concept depicts them as diminutive, wrinkled troll-like beings. The idea of wings came about in Victorian era artwork. In the original folklore, wings are rare. Instead, fairies flew with magic or on stems of ragwort or birds. This is a much different ideology than what I envision.

Folk beliefs identified fairies as:

1. Dead. Fairies were ghosts. Hmm…I cannot see myself being scared of a fairy ghost, but that’s probably because I visualize them as little people wearing wings! LOL

2. Demoted angels. Hmm…interesting, but this belief isn’t talking about fallen angels. Rather, angels that were caught between heaven and hell when God locked the doors to heaven. Well, that doesn’t seem fair! Another notion is that they weren’t bad enough for Hell and weren’t good enough for heaven. Wonders if this is similar to a purgatory concept…hmmm?

3. Demons. There sure is a lot of God folklore associated with fairies.

4. Babies Laugh. I love this idea! In a story about Peter Pan, author J.M. Barrie of The Little White Bird, said, “When the first baby laughed for the first time, his laugh broke into a million pieces, and they all went skipping about. That was the beginning of fairies.”

There are more beliefs and legends on fairies, but I’ll let you read about them on your own at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy if you’re interested.

In my short erotic romance e-book, Fairy Casanova—part of Decadent Publishing’s 1NightStand series—a very human woman discovers she has scheduled a one-night stand with a very real fairy. Would you believe someone without proof if they told you they were a fairy? I sure wouldn’t and…well, here’s how the heroine takes the news:

~~~
“I’m going to peel your garment from your body, slowly”—she groaned again at the vivid imagery—”and taste every inch of your human flesh.”
Human flesh?
She froze against his body. What a strange thing to say.
Sadie leaned back to stare at him. “You don’t think you’re…human?” She hesitated uttering the word human for fear of his answer.
“I’m not human.”
The response she’d feared receiving.
“Madame Evangeline didn’t impart I’m a fairy?”
She blinked, tried to process the information, and failed. “Mmhmm…a fairy?” Her stomach pitched to the floor. “Really? Wow.” Finally, she understood how her request had come into play. She’d checked off otherworldly, not expecting much more than someone who believed in aliens or something equally eccentric. But a sexy fairy, ready to be her one-night stand…He didn’t really expect her to believe that, did he? She lived and breathed balderdash in the courtroom, and she could sniff out lies better than a hound dog could sniff out quarry. “You’re a fairy? Give me a break.”
“It’s true.”
Sadie glared at him, any amusement she might have felt shifting straight into irritation. “How fantastic for you.” And horrifying for me!
Jace grinned, exposing straight white teeth, and he went from gorgeous to pussy-throbbing—forget heart-throbbing. He affected the lower region of her anatomy far too much for the latter description. Maybe she shouldn’t let it bother her that he was crazy. If he kept talking that fairy business, he’d end up in a nuthouse—assuming he wasn’t an escapee already.
“I can prove it.”
“How? You going to morph into a tiny fairy with gossamer wings?”
He laughed, and the rich timbre of the sound washed over her sensitized skin like a deep-body massage. Nut job or not, she couldn’t deny his lethal pheromones.
“Not exactly.”
He released her, and Sadie instantly felt lonely, and suddenly cold, outside of his embrace. Jace took a couple of steps backward and tugged his shirt out of his jeans. As his fingers went to the first button on his shirt, she realized she still held the glass of whiskey. No longer wanting the liquid fortitude, she placed it on the bar, watching him. His gaze roamed along her figure as he freed the buttons, exposing a little more skin with each release.
Her eyes were drawn to his dark nipples and a smattering of hair in the middle of his chest, a shade lighter than the hair on his head. The final button gave free, uncovering a dark trail of hair below his belly-button that dipped into his jeans. A path to guide her exploration. Very nice.
“Brace yourself.”
Sadie swallowed hard and tore her gaze from his chest as he rubbed his hands together. The sparkle in his honey eyes held hers hostage.
“This is where it gets unusual and otherworldly.” Jace winked, and her mouth dropped open in a silent, shocked breath. Not because he stripped off his shirt and tossed it aside—even though the baring of his chest certainly rendered her with a prolonged case of mute-itis—but because he knew two of her four one-nighter requirements. His toned abdomen rippled with defined strength, and his arms sported muscular definition. “I don’t give a shit about your Uncle Sam. And I’m not married.”
“Madame Evangeline let you see my requests?”Well, duh! So much for demonstrating her natural talent to bullshit her way through any situation, a flair which normally aided her well in the courtroom.
“She texted them.”
“What’d you ask for?”
“I asked for someone open-minded and willing to embrace the paranormal.”
Riiiiight. She’d never been accused of being a paranormal embracer. Scary movies made her cry. The first page of a horror book sequestered her beneath the covers, praying nothing limped out of her closet or crawled from underneath her bed. She flat out did not do “paranormal”. As for “open-minded”…Ha! She was an attorney, which pretty much explained everything.
Something wispy and diaphanous rose from behind him, curled outward like a long roll of parchment—or tinfoil—but much more striking than either.
Wings!
A deep shade of red tipped and interlaced throughout with black to create random diamond-shaped designs on gossamer wings?
“My God…” Sadie’s voice trailed off as she stared in wonder, forgetting she’d thought him crazy moments before. They were beautifully constructed, and when he presented his back to her, she realized they were almost as tall as he was. Dangling from the base of each wing were fat, blood-red droplets at least an inch in circumference, almost grazing the carpeted floor. Compelled to touch his wings, she stroked one and then the other. Gauzy soft, they felt paper thin as they shimmied beneath her hands. “How do you keep from ripping them?”
“They’re sturdier than they look.” He peeked over his shoulder. “Believe me now, Sadie?”
~~~

Jace wasn’t crafted to fit any of the folk lore beliefs I listed above. He’s humanoid in nature, from another dimension that isn’t related to heaven or hell, and is sexy. His wings aren’t just pretty or used to fly about, but they are very nimble and useful. He has very real problems, just like any human does, and he’s obsessed with human women.

Thanks for joining me today and thanks to Denyse for having me with her!

Fairy Casanova Blurb:

Las Vegas lawyer, Sadie Sinclair, has hit rock bottom. Bankrupt, with her reputation ruined, and her fiancé is yachting Aruba with a hot babe. Desperate for a break from reality, she contacts 1NightStand and is shocked to discover she's been paired with a sexy fairy.

Jace is about to become King of the fairies. One minor glitch, he's obsessed with humans. Before becoming King, he wants one night with a human before he's forever forbidden from crossing into the human realm. After a stellar night of sex, Jace is surprised to discover Sadie isn't just a human, but his mate. Complicating everything with the revelation, he's willing to forfeit his kingdom for her, but Sadie must decide if he's worth the biggest gamble yet.

Fairy Casanova Excerpt:

Knocking once to warn her of his arrival, he used the key card to let himself into the room. The door clicked shut behind him as he scanned the room for his evening’s companion.

“Hello,” she said when their eyes met.

Her sultry voice tempted him, much as a Siren lured a man to his demise against the rocky coast of her island. His mortal Siren offered him a shy wave.

“Want a drink?” She held up a goblet, half-full of amber liquor.

Her edginess socked his acute fairy senses like a blow to the gut.

Interesting. Why was she here then?

“No, thanks.” He moved toward her, intrigued by the competing vibes the woman evoked…reserved and salacious.

Maybe other men found the arctic chill of her gaze daunting. He found it intriguing, even challenging. Women would be envious and intimidated by her high-level eroticism.

Stunning, and nothing like the fairies he would command. Long, shiny, black hair framed her oval face. He couldn't wait to get his fingers in the wavy locks. Gunmetal-silver eyes warily watched him. Rimmed in a thin stripe of black eyeliner and splashed with a smidge of dark-gray shadow, the contrast brought out the stellar shade of her irises. High cheekbones, a slightly upturned nose, and wide lips, naturally dark red, or she'd been biting them in anxiety. Unlike the diminutive fairy-women, she was tall—not more than an inch or two shorter than his five-ten height. Most female fairies barely reached his chest, which made her a charming oddity. And she owned killer curves—again, unlike most beanpole-thin fairies—and those curves were framed in an evocative, skintight, black cocktail dress.

Jace stopped in front of her and stared at her mouth. He knew many places he wanted those lips, but mostly he wanted them rounded on an orgasmic scream.

“I'm Jace.”

She swallowed and cleared her throat, but her voice came out low and raspy. “Sadie.”

He dipped his finger into the crystal glass she held poised below her chin. A fat droplet of liquor clung to his forefinger, and he spread it across her pouty bottom lip. Her eyes widened, and her breathing noticeably accelerated. As if prompted, her tongue swiped away the moisture, and his cock twitched in reaction.

“You're perfect. Stunning.”

She laughed, a charming sound, as a blush crept across her cheeks. For the first time since beginning his adventure, he considered the horrible ramifications of falling hard for a human. Impossible! There wouldn't be enough time to grow attached to a one-night stand. Neither would his parents nor soon-to-be subjects approve.

‘Caught between deception and the truth, some secrets are better left unspoken.’

Blurb:

The smuggling ring has scarcely been shut down, when the body of a dead slave is discovered inside a dumpster outside the Pink Flamingo, another seedy nightclub in District D. The victim is only the first, in what soon becomes a string of bizarre murders. As the investigation progresses, everyone is labelled a potential suspect. The slave community is fearful of what might be lurking in their midst.

Death and disorder comes in spades. Mr. Shiru’s in deep trouble with associates from overseas. Amanda is nearing the end of her third trimester and Algar Flynt is after the Beautiful Dragon once again. Then the murderer makes an attempt on a friend’s life and the clues lead Sloan to a very disturbing conclusion. Could it be one of his own killing the slaves of Avalon or could it be much worse?

Excerpt:

“Nice to see you, Sloan.” The guard at the front lobby slid a registry in front of him. “Sign please.”

“Has the dinner break started for the clerks, Barney?” he picked up the pen.

The old codger checked his watch, then stamped the signature box. “Yep. The girls have an hour break.”

“Thanks.”

“Sloan…”

“What’s up? Here’s my ID if you need it again.” He flipped open his wallet.

“It’s nothing like that…” The guard ruefully sighed as if there was something he felt guilt over. “The clerk you’re coming to visit, Amanda, she’s pregnant, that’s what I heard anyway, and everyone says the baby has no father.”

“Is there something I should know, Barney?”

“The thing is…Amanda is a sweet girl, and the others have been pretty nasty.”

“Nasty?”

“You know, they say rude things to her and they’ve scared her.” The guard looked up. “I don’t think it’s right. I think someone should do something.”

“Do you.”

“I do. Whoever the father is, he isn’t around and she needs help. You’re her friend, you should say something on her behalf. Protect the girl.”

“I see…” Sloan curled a stick of gum inside his mouth.

The cafeteria was located on the main floor at the back of the Federal Government Building. The dining space took up a good three thousand square feet and serviced two hundred seats. All the tables stood separated in clumps and surrounded by the fake shrubbery. There was a self-service bar and cash register at the front next to the entrance. Sloan wandered into the queue and scanned the place first before opting to get a tray and lunch. He spotted Amanda sitting alone in the centre of the cafeteria. Then he noted a group of younger cops fifteen feet away from her. The men were boisterous. Beside the men were the APF clerks, Amanda’s direct co-workers, who were talking and smoking. Sloan moved further ahead in the line-up and placed a cup of coffee on the tray along with an egg salad sandwich, wrapped in wax paper.

Amanda jumped when the hunter’s tray rattled the table. He stood in full view of her co-workers. She sniffled and hastily wiped both eyes. “You made it.” She nervously glanced at him.

“Yeah, and how are you doing, doll?”

“Oh fine—real good actually. The morning sickness has finally stopped. And you?”

Her smile was pitiful and about as full of BS as any smile could be.

Sloan sighed and placing a hand on either of her shoulders, he leaned down and kissed the side of her face. “I’ll be right back.”

Fighting to squeeze her plump belly out of the chair and away from the table, Amanda quickly turned. “Where are you going?” she begged with a hand in the air. He was heading towards the cops’ table. “Oh, Sloan, don’t—please!”

An elongated shadow crept across the table and the merriment faded. All the rookie officers looked up at Sloan.

“You lost?”

Sloan had the guy by the throat and his gun out so fast the other cops didn’t dare breathe let alone move. “A real asshole, aren’t you?” He felt the guy swallow, then nod. “I don’t care much for assholes.” He applied a bit more pressure around the Adam’s apple and the gun remained stationary, resting at the cop’s temple. “The thing is, I go away for a few weeks on business and when I return, I find out the mother of my baby has become the laughing stock of the precinct. People, like you, and your asshole buddies here are cruel…calling her a slut…” Sloan got in tighter and searched the guy’s sweaty features. “And to be honest, I don’t like the abuse. So, here’s the deal, asshole. If I ever find out you and your buddies here are harassing my girl again, I will come back and when you’re off shift, I will beat the living daylights out of you. Got it?”

“G-girl…she’s y-your girlfriend?” he hoarsely stammered.

“That’s what I said.”

“We-we didn’t know. Sorry.”

Amanda almost fainted as the hunter approached, putting his gun away. Everyone in the cafeteria stared. “Oh my God…” she exclaimed as he sat down beside her. “What did you do?”

“Exactly, I put the fear of God into them.”

Amanda reached up to touch his stern face, then all of a sudden hugged him. Sloan embraced her. “I really wish you’d dump Vale and live with me.”

“Sorry, doll.” Sloan kissed her, then the alarm went off. “I think it would be best if we ate somewhere else.” He stuffed the sandwich in his pocket, took her by the arm, grabbed her coat and purse, then walked fast from the cafeteria. Soon as they were out in the main lobby near the entrance, he noticed one of the rookie cops talking to an armed guard who was the head of security. And, behind him was a ten-man team. The alarm blared louder and everyone working the floor wandered into the lobby area to see what the hubbub was. The rookie pointed in Sloan’s direction. “Crap.” He gingerly strode for the revolving front doors. The thunder of footsteps came and Amanda looked back. “Don’t look, doll. Just keeping moving.” They exited through the spinning doors with a whoosh. Sloan strode faster, almost dragging her to the Monte, pushing through all the people. He had parked the car several blocks away. But once they were outside and blended in with the sea of pedestrians, the city guards readily gave up the pursuit. Amanda held her stomach panting as Sloan unlocked the Monte. “Get in.” He made sure he closed the door before heading around the other side.

The conversation during the car ride was minimal.

“You could be charged,” Amanda said.

“Whatever. It was worth it.”

“I worry about you, Sloan.”

“No need. I’m a big boy.” Sloan reached just in behind the passenger seat. Then placed the box of Belgium chocolates on her lap. “Those are for you, doll.”

“A gift?” Her baby-blues watered a little and she lightly ran her hands over the delicate wrapping paper to get a total feel. “Oh, Sloan…and such pretty paper. I love pink.”

“I know you do. Everything in your closet is pink. I’ve never seen so much pink in one place.”

“Did you snoop?” She resentfully eyed him.

“Yes but only for medicinal reasons.” Sloan stuffed a fresh stick of gum inside his mouth, then laughed when she slapped his knee, it was like a child hit him. “Stop your bitching and just open it.”

Amanda stuck out her tongue, then slipped her tiny fingers in under the taped edges. The paper tore away from the box. She lifted the lid. A mixture of white and dark chocolate were moulded into different shapes. “Ohh, Sloan!” she squealed with delight. “I love chocolate! How did you know!”

“Don’t most women.”

“I suppose.” She debated over which one to try first. Eventually she chose a swirled, chocolate leaf. She sucked on it for a moment, then smiled. “This is so good. Oh and it just melts in your mouth. You should try one.” Amanda found a nice dark piece, a heart. “Here try this.” Sloan leaned sideways in her direction and when the candy touched his lips, he opened his mouth. Amanda popped it inside, then eagerly awaited his reaction. “Good huh?”

“Yeah, not bad at all, doll. Nice and rich.”

“Would you like another one?”

“No thanks. One’s enough. I’m not big into chocolate.”

“Did you know, chocolate is an aphrodisiac and it can be used in a variety of ways during sex?”

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re trying to seduce me.”

“I could dip your cock in melted chocolate and suck it,” she said with hopefulness.

Sloan glanced at her. The girl’s lips swelled to a delicious, tender crimson. He pictured his cock in her mouth, then nervously choked with laughter and look ahead. “I bet you could.”
