Guest: CARON B. GOODE

Intuitives have been called the sensitive ones, the creative dreamers, who share what they experience that others do not see. Finally, parents whose children are intuitively gifted have new, concrete strategies for raising them to be strong contributors in life. Raising Intuitive Children helps parents understand an intuitive child's world. More than that, it shows parents how to validate, not suppress, these intuitive abilities. The stakes are high. If their intuitive abilities get dismissed, intuitive children can lose their way, their joy, and their spirit. Psychotherapist Caron Goode teams up with parenting expert and coach Tara Paterson to share explanations, stories, and examples many from Tara's own family in this ground-breaking guide. It addresses:

- Knowing if your child is intuitively gifted
- Identifying when something is out of balance
- Trusting what intuitive children say from the imaginable realm
- Shifting parenting styles to meet a child's style and strengths
- Using breathing techniques for staying centered, calm, and optimistic
- Creating rituals so they can feel solid and bring forth their intuitive intelligence
- Dealing with environmental and nutrition elements that especially affect intuitives
- Exploring strategies for bonding and communication at each stage of development

Douglas Carlton Abrams

For most of you who are regular readers here, the name Douglas Abrams is a familiar one. I'm a fan of the wonderful, intelligent person and the talented author this man is. Both his books have been exceptional, passionate, and thoroughly engaging reading experiences. Today, Doug is talking about his second novel, EYE OF THE WHALE. Like The Lost Diary of Don Juan, this book resonates with his personal convictions and passions, while being written in lyrical, and flowing style. I'm reading EYE OF THE WHALE for the second time already, and fine-tuning a review that I will share with you soon. In the meantime, I'd like you to "meet" Doug Abrams, a special friend, and a remarkable author... the story he has to tell you in this new novel - which is currently in the Top Ten Best-sellers on the San Fransciso lists - is both timely and important to us all. So, get a copy of it for yourself, and settle in to experience something very, very special. Now, over to Mr. Abrams....

When I began researching my current novel, Eye of the Whale, I had no idea quite how devastating our impact on the aquatic ecosystem has been—and how what we are doing to water is affecting us on the land. I had no idea, for example, that killer whales are filled with flame retardants—chemicals that are compromising their immune systems and ours. I had no idea that beluga whales are so filled with toxic chemicals that when they wash up dead on shore, they must be treated like toxic waste. Let me explain how I began a journey that took me to swim with the humpback whales and cage dive with the white sharks in search of answers.

I start out every novel with a question, not an answer. One day, I was sitting by the fire reading my twin daughters a children’s story about a trapped whale, just after another whale had swum up the Thames. A scientist friend was visiting and started telling me some astonishing facts about new environmental dangers to our children’s and other animals’ health on the land and in the water.

I asked myself: what if these events were connected? What if whales and humans were threatened by the same dangers? I knew that the answer to this question would result in a thrilling and important story. I had no idea when I started quite how thrilling and important the story I discovered would be.

I discovered that there is an environmental threat as grave as global warming, and it is doing to our bodies and the rest of the animal world what global warming is doing to our climate. It is called endocrine disruption—toxic chemicals are shifting our fundamental physiological processes in the body. It has been linked to a rise in infertility, childhood cancers, breast and prostate cancer, birth defects, even autism and the decrease in the number of boys that are being born. We know what’s happening at the macro, but I had no idea what was happening at the micro level.

That day when I was sitting by the fire reading to my daughters, I asked myself a question that was both deeply personal and universal. It is a question that many of us are increasingly asking ourselves: Can we survive, and what might be stronger than our greed, our fear, and our denial?

I needed an answer to this question, and there is no better place to ask questions about the future than in the fictional world. I did get an answer to my question. There is indeed something that is stronger than greed, fear, and denial, but I better not say more or I may give away too much of the story.

I do think there is hope. Writing this book terrified me, but it also gave me hope. What is important is not just to lament the long litany of environmental destruction—that most of the edible fish in the oceans will be gone by 2050 from overfishing and that coral reefs are dying faster than anyone anticipated. What we need is to understand how all these individual tragedies fit together and are caused by the relationship that we have to the wild and to the environment as a whole. Writing this novel was my attempt to understand how it all fits together and how we might just be able to turn it around.

Meet Jacqueline Warlow....

For anyone who is wondering who this lady is, let me tell you - Jacqueline Warlow, apart from being a truly fabulous lady, is also one of the very BEST teachers I was ever lucky enough to have in my school days. Guest: NICOLE MORGAN

Please welcome my special guest to start the week, the very talented and wonderful Nicole Morgan!

Isabelle first fell in love with Sean when she was fifteen years old. Six years her senior he only saw her as a gawky teenager. Years later, at eighteen years old Isabelle decides to act on her feelings. Panicking from his attraction towards her, Sean pushes her away refusing to give into his desire.

Over a year passes and Isabelle has tried to move on. She has found the perfect boyfriend. Justin is patient, kind and a complete gentleman. Sean’s feelings for her haven’t died though and he is tired of sitting idly by while she is with another man. Driven by desire and love he does everything within his power to get her back.

Justin, the once perfect boyfriend begins to fall apart at the idea of losing Isabelle. In a moment of rage and desperation he does something horrific, effectively changing their future forever.

Will Sean’s love be enough to get them through the pain? Or will Isabelle walk away from Sean forever? And does love truly know no boundaries?

What is Love Knows No Boundaries all about?

Love Knows No Boundaries is a story about a love that forms between two people who meet when their widowed parents marry. Sean is older than Isabelle and tries to step into the shoes of her big brother. He does so rather successfully until she is older and begins to pursue him. Relentless in her pursuit he finally gives into her advances and into his own desires as well. After a night of passion Sean is overwhelmed with guilt over what he believes is taking advantage of the young and sweet Izzy. While she is an adult he can’t get past their age difference and his role as step brother. He pushes her away and into the arms of another man. A year passes and Sean is tired of his guilt and missing the only woman he’s ever loved. He goes after Izzy and vows to get her back. The other man in her life, Justin, is not ready to let her go though. Taking matters in his own hands, Justin commits an act that he is sure will bind Isabelle to him forever.

In this story, two questions remain throughout. Will Isabelle and Sean overcome their obstacles and find a way to be together? And will the acts of one man effectively ruin any chance they have at happiness?

That sounds like you've created a wonderful love story. How did you come up with the idea?

You know I’ve been asked this question before and I wish I had an answer. Sometimes I sit down to write a story with just the opening chapter in mind and wait for the story to tell itself. I wish I had a method to my madness that I could share with the readers, but unfortunately even I don’t know which way a story is going to go when I start it. I’m often just as surprised as the reader.

Interview with Kelly Abell

Thanks for joining me today. To get us started can you please start by telling us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

I would love to. I have two books out. A thriller called Sealed In Lies and a paranormal entitled Haunted Destiny. I am currently working on a sequel to Sealed In Lies called Captured In Lies and it will be a real Blast!

Could you please tell us a little about yourself?

Not as thrilling as you might think but by day I’m an Insurance Sales Consultant and by night a writer. I’m married with two teenagers. They keep both my husband and I busy. I love to write and to read. What a surprise, right? I live in Florida and really love the weather here. I’m out enjoying it as much as possible.

Why do you write in two different genres?

I like to think of myself as a writer of many genres. I think of an idea for a story and I want to write it. I don’t let a particular genre dictate what I write. I like a well thought out plot and characters that have depth and come to life on the pages. If they happen to talk to ghosts, then so be it! I think that helps expand my reader base and give people more of what they like to read.

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Don’t stop believing! Writing is a craft and like any craft it takes practice and exercise. Keep writing for the pure joy of it. As you begin your journey down the LONG road to publishing make sure your work is the best it can be in structure, plot, characterization, and spelling and grammar. Don’t submit something that is half way complete. Give yourself the time to do the work right, but don’t edit it to death either. There will be plenty of time for that once it gets to the publisher. Don’t let rejections bother you. You never know when you will submit your novel and it will hit that particular publisher or editor the right way on a particular day. It took me over ten years to get a publisher but it is worth the wait when you get that contract offer! I danced in my kitchen for days!

Where do your ideas for your books come from?

Sealed In Lies was actually based on a true news story that was on the news when I lived in Virginia. A burglar broke into a house not realizing it belonged to a prominent U.S. Senator. The senator’s wife discovered the burglar and he ended up kidnapping her. As they say Truth is stranger than Fiction. I always ask myself, I wonder what would happen if… Then the brain takes off and my fingers can’t keep up! (laughs)

The idea for Haunted Destiny came from a different source. My teenage daughter is not much of a reader. I asked her one day what she would read if I wrote something for her. She told me she wanted a “clique” ghost story. Then Haunted Destiny was born. It is geared f or all audiences but it does have some scary parts that might have you looking over your shoulder and asking questions of yourself like – Are spirits really all around us??? What would I do if I could see them?

Can you give us a sneak peek at your latest book?

Sure… You can get a free excerpt of both of my books on my website – http://www.kellyabellbooks.com/ but here is a sneak peak at Haunted Destiny.

Destiny Dove is the only survivor of a tragic car crash that killed her parents and baby brother. A teen uprooted from her home, she is forced to live with her eccentric grandmother whom Destiny has been taught her whole life to fear. She must start her life over living with an old woman who is not only a stranger to her, but just strange. All Destiny wants is to fit in with kids like her and begin to pull her life back together.

But Destiny soon discovers she is not like the other teens at all. She has developed the family gift of being able to see and talk to ghosts and her estranged grandmother will be the one person who can help her understand what the fates have dealt her…a haunted destiny. Being the town freak does not put Destiny high on the potential friends list, but Jake Turner sees something in her that the other teens from Blake High don’t. Destiny is actually able to put her unique talent to use and help Jake communicate with his recently deceased sister forming a bond between them that no one else can share or know about. In an extraordinary twist of events, Jake’s girlfriend Amy receives some furniture with some frightening ghostly spirits attached to it, and Jake turns to Destiny for help.

Now Destiny must struggle with a force she is unprepared to handle. When a party at Amy’s becomes a showdown between good and evil will Destiny have what it takes to save Amy and the others? Will the help of her grandmother, two resident ghosts and a surprise visitor be enough to rid the Morgan family of the evil possessing them and allow Destiny to finally gain the acceptance she so desperately wants? Or will the ancient evil destroy them all?

Thank you so much for joining me today, Kelly. We look forward to reading your books. Kelly’s books can be found on the following websites:

Guest: Karin Slaughter

Join Karin Slaughter, author of the suspense novel, Undone (Delacorte Press), as she virtually tours the blogosphere in August on her first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book Promotion!

Karin Slaughter is the New York Times bestselling author of eight novels, including Beyond Reach and A Faint Cold Fear, which was named an International Book of the Month selection; she contributed to and edited Like a Charm. She is a native of Georgia, where she currently lives and is working on her next novel, which Delacorte Press will publish in 2010.

Visit Karin Slaughter’s website at http://www.karinslaughter.com/

About the Book:

In the trauma center of Atlanta’s busiest hospital, Sara Linton treats the city’s poor, wounded, and unlucky—and finds refuge from the tragedy that rocked her life in rural Grant County. Then, in one instant, Sara is thrust into a frantic police investigation, coming face-to-face with a tall driven detective and his quiet female partner…. In Undone, three unforgettable characters from Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling novels Faithless and Fractured collide for the first time, entering an electrifying race against the clock—and a duel with unspeakable human evil.

In the backwoods of suburban Atlanta, where Sara’s patient was found, local police have set up their investigation. But Georgia Bureau of Investigation detective Will Trent doesn’t wait for the go-ahead from his boss—he plunges through police lines, through the brooding woods, and single-handedly exposes a hidden house of horror buried beneath the earth. Then he finds another victim.…

Wresting the case away from the local police chief, Will and his partner, Faith Mitchell—a woman keeping explosive secrets of her own—are called into a related investigation. Another woman—a smart, upscale, independent young mother—has been snatched. For the two cops out on the hunt, for the doctor trying to bring her patient back to life, the truth hits like a hammer: the killer’s torture chamber has been found, but the killer is still at work.

In her latest suspense masterpiece, Karin Slaughter weaves together the moving, powerful human stories of characters as real as they are complex and unforgettable. At the same time she has crafted a work of dazzling storytelling and spine-tingling mystery—as three people, each with their own wounds and their own secrets, are all that stands between a madman and his next crime.

Excerpt:

She squinted her eyes at the road ahead, deciding she should have her vision checked again. She was not so far from seventy herself, and her eyes seemed to be getting worse every year. Dusk was a particularly bad time for her, and her vision tended to blur on objects that were at a distance. So it was that she blinked several times before she was sure of what she was seeing, and only opened her mouth to warn Henry when the animal was right in front of them.

“Jude!” Henry yelled, one arm shooting out in front of Judith’s chest as he wrenched the steering wheel to the left, trying to avoid the poor creature. Judith thought, oddly, about how the movies were right. Everything slowed down, time inching by so that each second seemed to take an eternity. She felt Henry’s strong arm bolt across her breasts, the seatbelt biting into her hip bones. Her head jerked, slamming into the door as the car swerved. The windshield cracked as the animal bounced against the glass, then hit the roof of the car, then the trunk. It wasn’t until the car shuddered to a stop, spinning a full 180 degrees on the road, that the sounds caught up with Judith: the crack, thunk, thunk, all overlaid with a high-pitched screaming that she realized was coming from her own mouth. She must have been in shock, because Henry had to yell at her several times, “Judith! Judith!” before she stopped screaming.

Henry’s hand was tight on her arm, sending pain up her shoulder. She rubbed the back of his hand, saying, “I’m all right. I’m all right.” Her glasses were askew, her vision off-kilter. She put her fingers to the side of her head, feeling a sticky wetness. When she took away her hand, she saw blood.

“It must’ve been a deer or...” Henry put his hand to his mouth, stopping his words. He looked calm but for the telltale up and down of his chest as he tried to catch his breath. The air bag had deployed. A fine, white powder covered his face. Her breath caught as she looked ahead. Blood had spattered the windshield like a sudden, violent rain.

Henry pushed open the door but did not get out. Judith took off her glasses to wipe her eyes. The lenses were both broken, the bottom part of her bifocal on the right side missing. She saw that the glasses were shaking, and realized that the tremor came from her own hands. Henry got out of the car, and she made herself put on her glasses and follow him.

The creature was on the road, legs moving. Judith’s head ached where it had smacked into the door. Blood was in her eyes. That was the only explanation she had for the fact that the animal–surely a deer–appeared to have the shapely white legs of a woman. “Oh, dear God,” Henry whispered. “It’s–Judith–it’s–”Judith heard a car behind her. Wheels screeched against asphalt. Doors opened and closed. Two men joined them on the road, one running toward the animal.

He screamed, “Call 9-1-1!” kneeling down beside the body.

Judith stepped closer, then closer yet. The legs moved again–the perfect legs of a woman. She was completely nude. Bruises blackened her inner thighs–dark bruises. Old bruises. Dried blood caked around her legs. A burgundy film seemed to cover her torso, a rip at her side showing white bone. Judith glanced at her face. The nose was askew. The eyes were swollen, lips chapped and split. Blood matted the woman’s dark hair and pooled around her head as if in a halo. Judith stepped closer, unable to stop herself–suddenly a voyeur, after a lifetime of politely looking away. Glass crunched beneath her feet, and the woman’s eyes shot open in panic. She stared somewhere past Judith, a dull lifelessness to her gaze. Just as suddenly, her eyelids fluttered closed, but Judith could not suppress the shudder that went through her body. It was as if someone had walked over her grave.

“Dear Lord,” Henry mumbled, almost in prayer. Judith turned to find her husband gripping his hand to his chest. His knuckles were white. He stared at the woman, looking as if he might be ill.

“How did this happen?” he whispered, horror twisting his face. “How in God’s name did this happen?”

NEW REVIEW!

DESCENT INTO DARKNESS
Vampire erotic romance

This story is darkly intriguing. It explores the mental status of an older vampire who finds he has lost something very important to him, but only after the fact. Denyse is amazing in her ability to bring across to her audience such intense feelings in such a short time. As always, I have thoroughly enjoyed her current offering and will definitely suggest it to others.

Why I Chose E-Publishing to Publish My Book
By Marcus Dino

E-Publishing is more convenient, far less expensive, can reach a greater audience, and is much more ‘editor friendly’ than publishing a book in printed form. This is why I decided to e-publish my second book, Diary of a Mad Gen Yer.

The first reason is that e-publishing is more convenient than print publishing. Assuming you have a publisher who gives you the author, a lot of freedom, I can get an e-book published in a week after writing my manuscript as opposed to twelve months. I can make editing changes overnight as opposed to say waiting a month for my changes to come back from editor. It is much easier to market an e-book than a printed book. I can send review copies to reviewers by email as soon as my book is published. I can show my target audience and fans samples of my e-book on my website within days after I have finished writing my manuscript.

Expense is another major reason why I chose to e-publish my book. Face it print publishing a book can be a major expense. There are expenses to the publisher if you self publish, expenses to a professional editor, marketing expenses, etc….With e-publishing you pay a fraction the cost of print-publishing your book. Of course like an author or publisher you want to test the ‘sale ability’ of your book. What if sales are slow and there is little interest in your book? The potential losses are smaller with e-publishing than with printed-book publishing.

Your target audience, what’s more convenient, seeing a book advertised on the net where you can download it onto your PC or e-book reader in a matter or have to drive to several bookstores to see if they even have the book or place an order on the Net and wait several days plus pay shipping costs? E-books are just so user friendly and convenient for readers. E-books have potential if not now but perhaps in the near future more potential for a greater target audience than printed books do.

Editing, no matter how hard we and our editors fine comb our books, typos and grammatical errors still may appear after we have published our books. How exhilarating does it feel to finally see your printed book on a store shelf only to feel a big let down when you see a few glaring typos in the book. With e-publishing you can take care of those glaring typos in a matter of minutes as opposed to the time and expense to have your print books reprinted to take out the errors.

Is e-publishing perfect? Far from it, at this point only a small percentage of the reader population reads e-books. But that population is growing, especially with the younger generation such as the gen y audience, the people I try to target for Diary and Fifi, my first published book. Illustrations may be cruder and less refined than books that are printed, and of course as we all know, e-books may be subject to piracy, that is why writers need to copyright their books to the hilt. Finally the disadvantage of the convenience of getting an e-book published quickly could lead to poor writing and sloppy editing.

But at least in my opinion the benefits outweigh disadvantages and at least in the foreseeable future any books that I publish will initially be published as an e-book.

AVAILABLE TODAY!!!

The new novel by Douglas Carlton Abrams, EYE OF THE WHALE, is officially released today. For those of you who are familiar with me and my blog, you’re well acquainted with this man’s name. I’m a fan of his, big-time. God has also Blessed me with the privilege of calling Doug my friend, as well. He is a rare and special person, one of those people I admire as an artist, but more importantly as a human being of exceptional talent and integrity.

EYE OF THE WHALE challenges us to reach inside ourselves and see our planet in a way most of us don’t consider. We are, as a whole, one being, one people – and this world is our home. The actions of each individual impact the whole, because all it takes is an impact to the planet, and every living being on it, feels in some small way, the ripples of those actions. Doug’s book makes us think on a global scale, as well as a personal one. The ecological balance of our existence is tied to the earth we walk on. Yet how often do any of us think about the questions and their implications when disasters strike, or greed dominates decisions that should be based on wisdom and foresight? An awareness that there is more at stake than JUST today, and all of today’s choices will foreshadow tomorrow’s realities.

This book makes you think; about many things. The passion in Doug’s voice as he speaks to us about our planet resonates with his personal passion to leave behind a legacy that shows us love and positive hope. He reminds us that every small action we take to make our world a better place for those that come after us is important. We can make a difference, however small, and all the small steps become great strides in time, don’t they?

EYE OF THE WHALE is a work of fiction based strongly on factual science. Like Doug’s first book, The Lost Diary of Don Juan, it is written in lyrical, poetic style that draws the reader into his vision. The style flows, and the words become embedded in your heart, as they are meant to. This book, is designed to make you think, and it does, with great success. The key to it, is to not forget. Remember what you are being taught by this beautiful story, and let it stay in your awareness and give you hope. Ultimately, this is a story of positive impact and importance. It reminds us that even in the darkness there is a light, and hope coupled with love, can give us the courage to accept the challenges and turn them into good things.

Like Don Juan, EYE OF THE WHALE is about love – love of our world, and all the creatures that inhabit it. There is wisdom and vision in these words, as well as a passion for life. I think you’ll discover as you read that this is a book you experience as well as read, and isn’t that just the best kind of novel there is?

I’ll be doing a full review in a week or so, once I’ve finished my copy. I do HIGHLY recommend that you visit Doug’s website, take in all of the vast information and beauty that went into this special book. It’s all there, and so much more with it. Buy the book, and share its message!
